WAYLAND — The WACO football team made a statement Friday night with a 57-0 whooping of English Valleys.

The Warriors dominated from start to finish, taking a 49-0 lead into halftime before calling off the dogs in the last two quarters.

WACO’s offense was well-balanced but it was the running game that did the most damage. The Warriors ran for over 200 yards and scored five times on the ground.

Colton Horak led the rushing attack with 112 yards and one touchdown. Hunter Donaldson had just three carries on the night but made the most of them, going for 34 yards and two touchdowns. Elijah McGohan had 32 yards and a score. Cody Crawford got into the end zone with a one-yard run. Brice Crawford had 14 yards rushing and Jalen Colling had 12.

Nik Coble was 7-11 with two touchdowns and one interception. Calvin Battle led the receivers with two catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. Matthew Leichty had two catches for 21 yards and a score, and Drew Kissell had two catches for 16 yards.

Horak led the defense with 6.5 tackles. Nolan Eubanks had 5.5 tackles and Donaldson finished with 4.5 tackles, two of which were for a loss.

The Warriors picked off four passes in the game. Horak had two interceptions and 57 return yards. Collins picked off a pass and took it 26 yards the other way, and Kissell had an interception as well.

The Warriors moved to 3-3 on the year. They’ll have a big test this Friday, Sept. 29, when they face Lone Tree on the road. That game will begin at 7 p.m.
