WACO, W-MU girls run at Warrior Invite

WACO — The WACO girls’ track and field team finished fourth place in their home meet on Tuesday night, scoring 47 points to tie with Highland. Winfield-Mt. Union scored 77 points for third.

Mediapolis just edged out Van Buren to win the Warrior Invitatioal. The Bullettes scored 95 points to take home first, and VB finished with 94.

W-MU won three individual events on the day in route to their third place finish. Cecelia Hemsworth won the 800-meter run in 2:37.94. Avery Maeder took the 200-meter dash in 28.43 seconds, and Kyndal Townsley won the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the tape in 1:20.39.

Lona Farrier took the discus throw for WACO, hurling an 89-08. WACO’s shuttle hurdle team also won, finishing the race in 1:12.91. Molly McLaughlin won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.08 seconds, finishing just ahead of Townsley, who placed 17.59 to pick up second place for the Wolves.

W-MU had three other second-place finishes on the day. Isabela Mertens placed second in the 3000-meter run, crossing the line in 14:07.02. The distance medley team took second in 4:50.89, and the 4x100 team picked up the silver in 53.62 seconds.

The WACO sprint medley team took second place in 2:04.47. The 4X200 team also placed second, crossing the tape in 1:56.77.

W-MU and WACO will both be back in action on Thursday, May 3 for the conference championship meets. The Wolves will be at Louisa-Muscatine for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division meet and WACO will be in New London to compete in the South Division. Both of those meets begin at 4:30 p.m.
