Creative Outlet Theatre Ensemble, a new theatre production company, will hold auditions for “Doubt, A Parable” by John Patrick Shanley, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26, at Comfort Inn and Suites in Mt. Pleasant.

Friday’s auditions will be from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday’s from 2-4 p.m.  Potential cast members are asked to prepare one or two dramatic monologues, no more than three minutes in total length, or be prepared to read from the script.  Roles are available for three women ages 20s to 60s and one man, age 25 to 45.  Performances will be in mid-April.

“Doubt” is set in the fictional St. Nicholas Catholic School of New York in 1964. The head nun, Sister Aloysius, has suspicions about the new priest, Father Flynn, and she won’t stop questioning until she gets the answers she wants.  This four-person play is a conversation starter, as it leaves the Father’s guilt to be decided by the audience.

Creative Outlet Theatre Ensemble is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 2012.

The company’s mission is to entertain by presenting professional theatrical productions of classic and contemporary works, to educate the public at large by encouraging them to engage in the theatre experience, and to enrich the culture of Des Moines, Henry, Lee and Van Buren counties in southeast Iowa by collaborating with other area organizations.

Members of the board of directors are Eric Teeter, Cristin Walljasper, Zachary Rocker, Crystal Brown, and Michael Ernst, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Martin George, New London.

Rocker says, “Creative Outlet is looking forward to producing “Doubt” as the first show of our first season.  It is a thought-provoking show that will leave audiences talking afterward.”

He added, “We are looking to expand the number of people in the region who are involved in the performing arts, and will need backstage help for this production.”

Anyone interested in helping out, or participating in upcoming workshops in directing, playwriting or stage management, contact is best made through the theatre’s Facebook page at or by emailing
