WAYLAND — The WACO boys’ basketball team went 1-1 in their two games this weekend. The Warriors lost to Iowa Mennonite, 57-30, on Friday night before defeating Sigourney, 59-49, the next day.

The Warriors stayed close for three of the four quarters on Friday but a disastrous 28-4 second quarter was too much to overcome.

Cornell Hulme and Beau Beckler scored eight points apiece in the loss. Colton Horak and Nik Coble had three points apiece and Drew Kissell, Calvin Battle, Conner Eichelberger and Wyatt Harbison had two each.

The Warriors trailed, 45-40, going into the final period on Saturday but WACO had a huge fourth quarter to come back and win.

WACO outscored Sigourney, 19-4, in the fourth quarter to steal the game in the final minutes.

Horak had 23 points to lead the way. Hulme scored 14. Beckler had 10. Harbison scored nine. Battle finished with two and Kissell had one.

The Warriors moved to 2-15 overall with the win. They’ll be at West Burlington tonight (Tues.) at 7:30 p.m.
