Jan 28, 2014

RIVERSIDE — The WACO basketball teams were swept by Highland in a girls/boys Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division doubleheader on Friday. The girls dropped a 49-22 decision to the Huskies, while the boys’ team fell by a score of 55-43.

In the boys’ game, the Huskies ran to a 34-22 halftime lead, aided by a 19-point second quarter.

WACO was outscored again in the third quarter, 13-8, before making a run at the Huskies in the final eight minutes.

Their efforts came up short, however, and the Warriors fell in the SEISC North contest.

Jackson Roth had a team-high 13 points for WACO in the game. Dylan Carlson and Bryce Achen each contributed eight points, while Braden Blake and Tucker Janecek added six points apiece. Jackson Gerot chipped in the team’s other two points.

Carlson pulled down nine rebounds; Achen and Janecek grabbed six boards apiece.

Blake dished out six assists and had three steals. Roth had two thefts and Carlson blocked two shots.

The team is now 4-10 on the season and 3-9 in the conference.

In the girls’ game, WACO was limited to just four points in the first, second and fourth quarters. The Warriors posted 10 in the third quarter, but didn’t have enough to get past Highland.

Stats for the WACO girls were not available at press time.

The team is now 5-9 overall and 3-9 in the SEISC North.

The Warriors play again tonight (Tuesday) at Lone Tree, starting with the girls’ game at 6 p.m..
