The Wayland Lions Club held their March meeting on Tuesday, March 19, at the Wayland Community Center. President Jay Meyer called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. John Swartzendruber offered the invocation.

Thirteen members and one guest enjoyed the meal catered by Alice Hofstetler. Following the meal, the business meeting resumed. Minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were given and approved.

A thank you was sent to February’s guest speaker, Amy Martin, for her presentation on diabetes.

Membership Chair Brian Pattyson reviewed a future membership drive and read a proposed letter.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, March 31, at 1 p.m. at Parkview Home and West Park.

A letter was read from Lions Clubs International President Wayne A. Madden, awarding Wayland Lions Club their 55-year patch. The patch commemorates their charter on April 10, 1958 and will be displayed on their banner.

Two 10-year anniversary patches were awarded to the WACO Leo Club sponsored by the Lions of Wayland, Olds and Crawfordsville Lions Clubs. It was noted that the Lions were appreciative of the Leo’s contributions to their communities.

The Lions Clubs look forward to continuing this relationship with the civic-minded youth who contribute their time and skills for the betterment of their communities.

Wayland Lions approved a $275 contribution to Camp Courageous for attending youth.

Secretary Carol Shumaker informed the members that the April meeting will call for election for the new term of a secretary, second and third vice presidents to complete the list of officers. Marianne Pattyson and Randy Fehr will become president and first vice president, respectively, for the new term beginning in July. Terry Kaufman will serve as treasurer.

At the April meeting, Wayland Lion Larry Graber will feature a slide presentation on his visit to Switzerland.
