Wayland council holds first meeting of the year

By Brooks Taylor, Mt. Pleasant News | Jan 08, 2018

WAYLAND — Wayland’s first city council meeting of the new year Wednesday night was a brief one and had the city leaders taking care of some beginning-of-the-year business.

Topping the list was a public hearing on an amendment to the fiscal 2018 budget. Following the hearing, in which no written or oral comments were received, the council approved the amendment.

City Clerk Bev Conrad said the amendment was needed to pay for some expenses budgeted in fiscal 2017 that carried over to the current fiscal year.

The largest expenses in the amendment were $54,000 for the Cummings Street project and $20,000 for the housing rehabilitation program. Other expenses included well repair and the demolition of two buildings on Main Street.

Approval was given for the purchase of a SBX72 Bush Hog box blade for $1,090 from Armstrong Small Engine in Donnellson.

Official depositories for city funds in fiscal 2018 will be the Wayland State Bank, People’s Savings Bank and the White State Bank.

The council meets again in regular session Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.
