Wayland Lions Club hosting Easter Egg Hunt March 31

The Wayland Lions Club held their March meeting at the Wayland CommunityCenter. There were 16 members present.

First Vice President Bill Grimm called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roger Roth gave the Invocation. Then the meeting broke for a delicious meal catered by Alice Hochstetler.

At the resumption of the meeting, Lion Brian Pattyson read the minutes of the last meeting and Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report, which were approved.

The Scholarship Soup Supper successfully met the goal to provide a $500 Scholarship to a WACO Senior at this year’s graduation. The Wayland Lions want to thank all those from the community who participated.

Members are continuing to plan the 60th anniversary dinner of the Wayland Lions Club charter, which was April 10, 1948. The date of the dinner has been moved to October.

Plans for a “Diabetes Awareness Program” were also discussed and further plans for the program are being researched. Discussion with Henry County Health Center for a partnership for the program are in process.

In new business, confirmation of first VP Bill Grimm taking over as president and second VP Randy Morrow becoming first VP was unanimously approved.

Wayland Lions will hold the Easter Egg Hunt at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at West Park and Parkview.

Wayland Lions confirmed their contribution to Fourth of July activities, starting with the Pancake Breakfast.

They also made their annual donation to the Leader Dogs for the Blind program, which trains service dogs. More than 14,500 dogs have been trained, since the inception of the program on April 4, 1939. The program has been free to recipients since 1958.

A Camp Courageous donation was confirmed for one student for this year’s camp. Camp Courageous’ purpose is to provide camping to people with disabilities.
