Who will wear the crown?

Five young ladies compete for HC Fair Queen title

The Wright Pavilion is where Henry County residents will want to be next Thursday, as five young women compete for the Henry County Fair Queen title.

The five contestants, who met earlier this summer for a queen boot camp, will take the stage Thursday, July 19, to show off their knowledge of the fair.

During the event, the young women will walk the stage in casual wear as well as an evening gown. The hopeful queens also will give a personal interview. The participants will be judged on their personality, overall appearance and citizenship.

The contestants must be an active member of a Henry County 4-H group, a member of at least one service organization and be between the ages of 16 — 21. Below is a brief introduction of each of the five queen contestants:


Alexandra Gerling

Alexandra Gerling, the daughter of Nikki and Chris Gerling, will be a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School this fall. In her free time, Alexandra can be found baking, reading, riding horses, being with friends and family, and golfing.


Ella Francis

Ella Francis is the daughter of Candi and David Francis and will be a senior at New London High School this fall. Ella is an avid dancer and wants to attend college to become a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in mental health.


Kristina Willey

Kristina Willey, the daughter of Mark Willey and Cyndee Parker, is a 2017 graduate of Mt. Pleasant Community High School. This is Kristina’s second year competing for fair queen. When she isn’t helping out with fair queen activities, she can be found swimming, camping, and being outdoors.


Jenna Hummell

Jenna Hummell is the 17-year-old daughter of Jeff and Amber Hummell. This fall Jenna will be a senior at New London High School where she is involved in KTTV, choir, play, musical, student council, dance team, and track.


Samantha Decker

Samantha Decker is the daughter of Amy and Shawn Decker and the sister of Austin Decker. This fall Samantha will be a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School. Following graduation she plans to attend the University of Iowa to major in Pre-Law.


The queen contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. and also will include the 4-H clothing event. In addition to the 2018 Henry County Fair Queen Contest, a 2018 Henry County Fair Princess also will be crowned.
