Wilbur Darrell Weigert, 85, West Burlington, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

A private family graveside service will be held in Burge Cemetery in New London.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice of West Burlington.

Thielen Funeral Home and Crematory is in care of the arrangements.

Born Feb. 22, 1928, in West Point, he was the son of Theodore R. Weigert and Margaret C. Helm.

He graduated from New London High School in 1945.

He married Vivian LaVonne Ryan in 1949 in Mt. Pleasant. They later divorced.

In 1983, he married Mary K. Shultze in Burlington.

He was employed at the West Burlington Railroad Shops; the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant - Atomic Energy Commission as a laborer, bricklayer, and production operator and later rebuilt synchronous motors and maintained energy power generators; Cargill Seed Company, welding and electrical maintenance; Federal Mogul (Champion Spark Plug) as an electrician. He retired in 1990 from Federal Mogul.

He enjoyed bluegrass music, Sprint car races and playing musical intruments.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Vicki (Keith) Stone of Little Rock, Ark., and Cathy (David) Collins of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bernita (Sammy) Stevenson of Gladstone, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Randy Weigert of Fairfield; and a brother, Stanley Weigert.
