Wilna I. Meeker

Wilna I. Meeker, 93, of Winfield, died September 17, 2017 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2017 until 10:30 a.m. at the Winfield United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 10:30 at the church, with Rev. Randy Moser officiating. Interment will follow at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Memorials will go to the activities department at Sunrise Terrace Care Center and the Winfield United Methodist Church.  Honts Funeral Home in Winfield is in charge of the arrangements.


She was born July 4, 1924 in Louisa County to Cecil James  and Dayle Marie (Owens) Enke. Mrs. Meeker graduated from Mount Union in 1941. She married Leslie Meeker on January 11, 1946 in Burlington, Iowa.  This was just days following his return from overseas serving in WWII just short of four years. They moved to the Meeker farm in their beloved Marsh Community where they lived until retiring to Winfield in 1983. Mr. Meeker passed away in 1993.


She enjoyed numerous activities and memberships outside the home in both Morning Sun and Winfield.  She was an active member of the Marsh Methodist church until it closed. They moved their membership to Winfield United Methodist Church where she was a faithful member of the congregation until her health failed.


Mrs. Meeker  cherished farm life. She was an avid gardener enjoying flowers as well as the produce. She canned and preserved everything she could, then loved sharing her bounty with family and friends as she entertained in her home often.

She delighted in reading, music and playing games especially cards. Her most treasured times involved socializing with family and friends as well as any activity outside the home.


Mrs. Meeker is survived by daughters Barbara (Tony) Rechkemmer of North Liberty, Iowa and Sherrie (Ron) Brewer of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; brother Merle Enke of Coralville; and nieces and nephews.


She is preceded in death by her husband and a son, Richard Meeker.
