WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union baseball team was unable to sustain a big night offensively for West Burlington on Wednesday night. The Falcons ended the SEISC cross-over game in five innings, topping the Wolves 14-0.

West Burlington scored the vast majority of their runs in the second inning. After plating one in the top of the first, WB put together a 10-run second frame to bust out an early 11-0 lead.

The Falcons scored one in each of the next three innings to bring their run total to 14. W-MU wasn’t able to push across any runs of their own and the game was called after five via the 10-run mercy rule.

W-MU collected only four hits on the day. Collin Simmons was 1-1. Mitchell Niebuhr and Dawson Bergthold each went 1-2 and Brody Barton finished the game 1-3.

Nathan Crow started on the mound for W-MU and was tagged with the loss. He threw five innings and gave up one run (three earned) on five hits and two walks, while striking out two batters.

Simmons came in to relieve Crow in the third inning. He gave up three earned runs on four hits and three walks.
