Winfield-Mt. Union drops game in Wapello

WAPELLO — Winfield-Mt. Union had a tough time in their third and final non-district game at Wapello on Friday night. The Wolevs fell 42-0 in the road contest.

The Indians scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters. Quarterback Logan Belzer led the way with seven touchdown passes on the night.

The Wolves struggled offensively against the Indians, who play one class above W-MU in district play.

Freshman quarterback Josh Burroughs was 3-7 for 13 yards. Andrew Brady caught one pass for seven yards and Christian Gerot had two catches for six yards.

Graham Hagge led the way on the ground with 11 yards. Juanito Piper had seven yards rushing. Brady had five yards on the ground, and Keegan Atkinson had four.

Jayce Malone led the Wolves defensively with six tackles, two of which were for a loss. Piper had five tackles. Kyle Giese had 4.5 tackles, and Daunte Oepping had four.

Hagge had one fumble recovery in the win, which was the only turnover forced by W-MU.

The Wolves fell to 0-3 with the loss and will look to bounce back in their homecoming game this week. W-MU will open up district play with an 0-2 Cardinal squad.
