Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball falls to Wapello in four sets

WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team battled back from a 2-0 deficit on Tuesday night and nearly forced a deciding fourth set, but the Wolves fell just short in the fourth set and lost the game 3-1.

Wapello looked to be in control after two sets. The Arrows took the first set 25-21 and the second set 25-15. The Wolves forced the fourth set with a 25-22 win in the third, but fell 25-23 in a nail-biting fourth.

Lexee Hartsock lead the Wolves with 16 kills on the night. Jenna Buffington and Liana Sweezer had 10 kills apiece. Pearl Krieger-Coble had three kills. Lauren Jamison finished with two and Maci Richardson had one. Jamison had 21 assists to lead the Wolves. Richardson added 11.

Pearl Krieger-Coble was 16-16 with one ace in the loss. Kendal Townsley was 14-15 with two aces, and Buffington and Jami Wilkerson each finished with one.

The Wolves finished the game with 14 blocks. Hartsock and Buffington each finished with four kills. Krieger-Cobleand Sweezer each had three.

Buffington led the defense with 15 digs. Townsley had 12 digs and Jennings finished with 10.

The Wolves fell to 11-18 overall and 3-4 in the SEISC North Division. They will head to Columbus on Tuesday, Oct. 10, for a game starting at 7 p.m.
