Winfield telepharmacy looking for pace to set up shop

WINFIELD — The city of Winfield is looking for a location for the promised and much-anticipated telepharmacy.

During a city council meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 13, Mayor Chris Finnell said the two options for the building were creating the funds through an economic program or looking to the public sector to provide a space. The council also discussed creating limited liability company (LLC) for the public to buy “stock” ownership in the project.

“At this time, the city has no money to invest in this project,” Finnell said, but added “I really want to get this pharmacy in town, and I want to do what we need to do.”

The mayor wants to ensure there is a contract with the pharmacist, who is currently establishing pharmacies in Northern Iowa, on how long she would oversee the project, how much employment it would bring to the city and “all the different pieces of that.”

“I think we need to push for private ownership,” council member Ryan Kinneberg said.

The council set a deadline of Oct. 20 to find a private space for the telepharmacy. They said there are no space requirements. If they do not find anything by then, they will further look into city ownership, Kinneberg said. They hope to begin opening the telepharmacy in January.
