VICTOR — The postseason run for Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball came to an end on Thursday night, but the Wolves didn’t make it that easy for No. 14 Hartwick-Ladora-Victor.

HLV was able to breathe easy in set one, taking it 25-17, but W-MU made the Warriors sweat in the next two. HLV was able to pull both games out, however, winning each of the final two sets 25-22.

The HLV defense was able to keep a fierce W-MU frontline relatively quiet over the three sets. Jenna Buffington led the squad with nine kills in 35 attack attempts, but nobody else reached five kills on the night.

Liana Sweezer finished the night with four kills on 13 attempts. Lexee Hartsock had three kills in 24 attempts, and the duo of Lauren Jamison and Pearl Krieger-Coble finished with one apiece.

Jamison had 12 assists on the day to lead the Wolves. The only other assist went to Maci Richardson.

Defensively, Buffington and Kyndal Townsley led the way with 11 digs apiece. Jami Wilkerson had eight digs to end the night. Molly Jennings finished with six.

The Wolves had six blocks on the day. Hartsock had three of those blocks, Sweezer had two and Richardson finished with one.

The Wolves weren’t quite as sharp on the serve as they were in the regional quarterfinals, but they did have a good performance, going 57-61 with three aces.

Wilkerson had the best day of anyone on the serve, finishing 15-15. Jamison was 15-16. Townsley was 10-11 with two aces, and Buffington had an ace of her own.

It was the last game for a handful of W-MU seniors including Hartsock, who is the team’s leading hitter. Other seniors include Jamison, the setter, Krieger-Coble, Richardson, Dakota Haines, Molly Jennings and Lilly VanAmerongen.

HLV will play No. 2 Springville in their regional final match.
