WINFIELD — Pitching and defense has been the bread and butter for Winfield-Mt. Union softball so far this season but the bats made up the main course on Tuesday night. W-MU bashed out 13 runs to tie a season high and mercy rule Mediapolis 13-3 in five innings.

The Wolves scored early and often. W-MU began the scoring with a two-out run in the first. Molly Miller reached on an error, allowing Carlee Sloan to scamper across the plate. Tara Jones had a two-RBI single in the second and it was 3-0 Wolves after two.

Sloan came up with two runners on in the fourth inning and delivered a big blow. She tripled to left-center field and then came across the plate on a throwing error for a little league home run, stretching the Wolves’ advantage to 6-0.

Mediapolis’ Jayde Eberhardt cut the W-MU lead in half with a three-run home run in the fifth inning, but that turned out to be the last at-bat the Bullettes would have all night.

The Wolves tallied seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. Molly Miller homered in the inning. Maci Richardson added a couple RBIs, Kyndal Townsley had one and Jones brought in another as W-MU hit the 13-run mark and ended the game two innings early.

Miller finished the night with four RBIs to lead the attack. Sloan and Jones ended the night with three RBIs. Richardson had two and Townsley brought home one. Madie Anderson had another great game in the circle for W-MU, picking up the win.
