WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union softball team put a hurting on Columbus in a SEISC North Division game on Friday night. The Wolves took out the Wildcats 10-1 to move to 4-2 on the season.

W-MU scored in every offensive inning except one. W-MU put up one run in the second inning. Columbus tied the game with one of their own in the top of the third, but W-MU ran away with one run in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Molly Miller had the biggest hit in the game. The freshman catcher blasted a solo homerun to left field in the fifth inning, her second of the season.

Head coach Amanda Richardson says the team is enjoying the power surge from her cleanup hitter, but stresses the urge to focus on making contact.

“It’s nice,” Richardson says. “Molly’s main thing is going to have to be to keep her eye on the ball and not swing for the fence. Before every at-bat, I tell her all I need is a base hit.”

Miller’s solo shot was one of two hits on the day. She finished 2-4 with two RBIs. Madie Anderson was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Dakota Haines went 1-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Carlee Sloan knocked home two of her own.

Kyndal Townsley finished 2-4 with an RBI and three stolen bases in the win. Maci Richardson was 1-4 with three stolen bases of her own.

Anderson had another dominant outing in the circle. She threw all seven innings to earn the complete-game victory, giving up one earned run on four hits and one walk. She struck out 12 batters.

The Wolves will host be in Riverside for a road game against Highland tonight (Monday) at 6 p.m. The baseball teams will also play at that time.
