Young bike rider injuredwhen struck by truck

A 13-year-old bicyclist suffered minor injuries July 17 after being struck by a truck at the intersection of West Clay and South White streets in Mt. Pleasant.

According to the accident report from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, two children, ages 8 and 13, were riding bicycles west in the 300 block of West Clay Street. The eight-year-old youth had stopped at the intersection of South White Street and proceeded through the intersection turning south onto White Street.

The 13-year-old youth also was traveling west in the 300 block of West Clay Street but failed to stop at the intersection. She then proceeded into the intersection where she was struck by a 1994 Ford truck, operated by David Anderson of Mt. Pleasant.

Witnesses on the scene stated the Anderson vehicle was attempting to stop before the collision.

The 13-year-old youth suffered minor abrasions to both legs and was transported from the scene by the Henry County Ambulance.
