Your Friend on the Front Page

Jun 30, 2017
Mary Liechty

Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.

This week’s ‘Friend on the Front Page’ is Mary Liechty.

Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? Yes, I was born and raised here. We lived in Cedar Falls/Waterloo for a while and then moved back before starting a family.

What is your favorite part of living here? Feeling like I have a good place to raise my kids. For a small town we have a lot of choices, activities and wonderful people.

What is your favorite local hangout? Butch’s River Rock Cafe. It’s close to my house and the food is great. I also really like getting my hair done at Studio II.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to jog down by Oakland Mills. It’s the closest thing to running on a beach.

Is there an annual event in Mt. Pleasant/Henry County that you enjoy? The First Presbyterian Church Annual Spaghetti Supper on the Wednesday night of Old Threshers. Our church puts on a great meal.

Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn’t have that you’d like to see? A bike path on Oakland Mills Road.

What is your favorite summertime activity? Watching my dog swim. We can’t keep him out of the water. He likes to wear a life jacket and will even go off the diving board.

What do you think is Mt. Pleasant/Henry County’s trademark? A supportive community and the marching band. Everywhere I go, people say, “oh, you guys have an amazing band!”

What’s one dish or drink that reminds you of Mt. Pleasant? A turkey tenderloin from Old Threshers.

Tell us something interesting about you? I have run two marathons. One before kids and one after.
