Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.

This week’s ‘Friend on the Front Page’ is Marsha Laux, whom you may know from Simply Thrive.

Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? No, I was born and raised in Van Buren and although I live in Jefferson County, I own a business here in Mt. Pleasant. I went to college at Iowa Wesleyan College and worked for a while here in Mt. Pleasant. I have a lot of history here.

What is your favorite part of living here? Mt. Pleasant is a great community. It feels like home. The residents are very friendly and has a progressive economic outlook.

What is your favorite local hangout? My business. I have a demo kitchen in the back and enjoy cooking.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to take pictures of nature. And I enjoy spending time with my eight grandkids.

Is there an annual event in Mt. Pleasant/Henry County that you enjoy? Old Threshers, of course. My first cousin is Terry McWilliams and I’m very proud of the work that he’s done.

What is your favorite summer activity? I love hiking in the woods. I take my camera and have a good time.

What do you think is Mt. Pleasant/Henry County’s trademark? Honoring its history and agriculture heritage.

What’s one dish or drink that reminds you of Mt. Pleasant? Root beer. When I was a teen I worked at A&W, back when they brought it out to your car.

Tell us something interesting about you? I like public speaking, a lot of people don’t. I enjoy meeting new people, I’m very social.
