Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.

This week’s ‘Friend on the Front Page’ is Kalen Henderson, whom you may know from StudioK Photography.

Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? I am not originally from Mt. Pleasant, but from Danville, and attended Iowa Wesleyan College out of high school. However, what brought me to Mt. Pleasant was my husband’s decision back in the early 1980s to open his Edward Jones office here.

What is your favorite part of living here? My favorite part of living in Mt. Pleasant is the people. I enjoy the small town atmosphere and the fact that everyone is your neighbor.

What is your favorite local hangout? I would have to say that my favorite local hangout is our winery — Airport Road Vineyard & Winery. Wedding weekends, music in the vineyard or just times when folks stop by for a wine tasting — we enjoy hosting and having friends, family and guests here. It is always great to watch others be able to relax and enjoy themselves.

What do you like to do in your free time? There are two things I enjoy doing in my free time — traveling and working out. My free time generally is very early in the morning where you’ll find me at the Rec Center in my Cycle Therapy class (this takes sheer power to get up at 5 a.m. three days a week and keep up with these folks). My husband, Mike, and I also love to travel and experience new places, cultures and — dare I say — food!

Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn’t have that you’d like to see? I would love to see Mt. Pleasant/Henry County join together all the bike/running trails and continue to build more. I think they’d be well used.

Tell us something interesting about you? My husband and I have visited all the continents but one. And that last one — Antarctica — is on our bucket list!
