Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.

This week’s ‘Friend on the Front Page’ is Anna Villareal, whom you may know from the Harlan Lincoln House.

Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant? If not, what brought you here? I am originally from Davenport, but have lived in various places around the Midwest during the last 10 years. My husband Nick and I had the opportunity to move to Mt. Pleasant last fall when I accepted a position at Iowa Wesleyan University.

What is your favorite part of living here? The welcoming atmosphere created by the people of Mt. Pleasant. As a newer resident, it made the transition of moving into this community such an easy process.

What is your favorite local hangout? We are still exploring all of the local places Mt. Pleasant has to offer. I spend a large amount of time along Main Street, from working as the Director of the Harlan-Lincoln House at Iowa Wesleyan University to having dinner on the square.

What do you like to do in your free time? I am an avid reader and also enjoy running. There is no better way to learn the layout of a town then navigating its streets during a run.

What do you think is Mt. Pleasant’s trademark? I truly agree with the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance and their banners. Statements such as Vibrantly Pleasant, Boldly Pleasant, and Culturally Pleasant for me really do encapsulate the trademark of this community.

Tell us something interesting about you! A little over two years ago my mom taught me how to quilt and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite hobbies. I love every step of the process from finding an interesting pattern and picking out fabric to seeing the whole project come together as a finished piece.
