Your Friend on the Front Page

Jun 29, 2018
Bekah Hosford

Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold. This week’s ‘Friend on the Front Page’ is Bekah Hosford, whom you may know from the Mt. Pleasant Public Library.

Are you originally from Mt.Pleasant? If not, what brought you here? I am not originally from Mt. Pleasant. I grew up in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. In May 2017, I graduated from UW-Milwaukee with my Master’s in Library and Information Science. At that point in time, I was earnestly looking for jobs in a public library, especially in the children’s department. I saw an opening here, applied, interviewed, accepted the position, and moved here that July, so I’ve been here about a year.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to read, workout at the REC Center, run around town or by East Lake (while listening to an audiobook), attend movies at Main Street Cinemas, attempt DIY projects and nap.

What is your favorite summertime activity? I love everything about summer (except the bugs), but my favorite activity has to be the library’s summer reading program... wink wink nudge nudge. Beyond that, I really enjoy water activities, like swimming, canoeing, or water gun fights.

Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn’t have that you’d like to see? Do we have karaoke? We should.

Tell us something interesting about you! I really love fan culture—fanfiction, fanart, cosplays. I think they are just so creative and passionate. I try to help support these artists by buying their art or donating money to help maintain writing sites, so that they can continue to pursue writing, art, etc., and maybe, one day, like Sarah Maas or Cassandra Clare, they can get published and their work can become known world wide.
