Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.

This week’s friend is David Schmitz, who is the Director of International Programs and Assistant Professor of ESL at Iowa Wesleyan.

Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? I was born and raised in Rolla, Mo. We moved here last July to begin my position working as Director of International Programs at Iowa Wesleyan University.

What is your favorite part of living here? Without a question it’s the people in this community. Our family has moved a lot because of my profession. Of all the places we have lived, Mt. Pleasant has been the easiest place to make connections with others!

What is your favorite local hangout? I enjoy taking walks on the trail at East Lake Park.

What do you like to do in your free time? Converse with others about my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

What is your ideal vacation? Being totally cut off from the internet for about a week and having the time just to read good books and engage in meaningful face-to-face conversations with people.

Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn’t have that you’d like to see? It would be nice if Lowe’s or Menard’s were a little bit closer.

What’s one dish or drink that reminds you of Mt. Pleasant? The food from Pad Thai restaurant.
