Your Friendon the Front Page

Dec 01, 2017
Delaney Van Ness

Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.

This week’s ‘Friend on the Front Page’ is Delaney Van Ness, whom you may know from Shottenkirk-Mt. Pleasant.

Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? I am not, I’m originally from Des Moines County. I came to Mt. Pleasant to attend Iowa Wesleyan.

What is your favorite part of living here? My favorite part of living in Mt. Pleasant is the small town atmosphere. I’m from Mediapolis, which is a very close community. Coming to Mt. Pleasant was not a big change for me.

What is your favorite local hangout? My friends and I like to go to The River Rock. It’s great food and it’s a place where we can all relax from our school work.

Is there an annual event in Mt. Pleasant/Henry County that you enjoy? I love Old Threshers. I grew up coming every year and have only missed one reunion in 20 years.

Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn’t have that you’d like to see? I’d love to see more family activities. Movies and the bowling alley are pretty much the only options in town.

What is your favorite winter activity? Does drinking coffee count as a winter activity? If so, then that’s it. In the Christmas season, I love to live by Buddy the Elf’s motto: “The best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”

Tell us something interesting about you? Music has always been my passion, and I’m blessed that I got to continue to be in amazing ensembles at Iowa Wesleyan. Our motto is “Discover your Passion” and I’m so thankful I’ve had the chance to do just that.
